Urban Family Photoshoot with the Zakarka family in downtown Albany, NY | Family Photographer

I was so excited when Charlie reached out and asked me to photograph his family. His children are all grown and beginning to make their own way in the world—between school, work, discovering their passions, and figuring out where life will take them next.

As a parent, I know how quickly you get to this stage. One minute, your kids are little and your days revolve around school schedules, practices, activities, and everything in between. Then suddenly, they’re grown, building lives of their own, and getting everyone together in the same place becomes a little harder.

Those are exactly the moments worth holding onto.

With Charlie’s son getting ready to head off to Texas for college, this felt like the perfect time to get everyone together and capture this chapter of their family before the next one begins.

One of the things I loved most about this session was that it really was about the kids and the family that Charlie and their mom have built over the years. Different seasons of life may bring change, but there is something incredibly special about being able to come together, laugh, reminisce, and celebrate the people who will always connect you.

The New York State Education Department in downtown Albany was the perfect backdrop for their session. With its beautiful architecture, historic details, grand columns, and unmistakable Albany character, it was a natural fit for a family that appreciates history, art, and architecture.

There was plenty of laughter, personality, and those little interactions that make family photographs feel real. Nothing overly posed or forced—just a family together at an important moment in their lives.

Family photos aren’t only for the years when your children are little.

They’re for this season, too.

For the year one leaves for college. For the rare time when everyone is home and in the same place. For the stage when your kids are becoming adults and finding their own paths.

Families grow. Families change. Life takes everyone in different directions.

But those connections—and the memories you’ve created together—are always worth documenting.

Because someday, you’ll look at these photographs and remember exactly what this chapter felt like.
