There are some weddings that hold an extra special place in your heart, and this was definitely one of them. I love every wedding I have the opportunity to photograph, but being able to photograph my brother’s wedding was such an honor.

When I first met Amy, I instantly felt like she was already part of our family. She is thoughtful and kind, with such a calming presence about her. She loves to laugh, loves making everyone around her laugh, and is the kind of person who would do anything for the people she loves. She is exactly what my brother Mark—and my nephew Aidan—needed in their lives, and I couldn’t be happier that she is now officially part of our family.

Amy and Mark were married at Amy’s cousin’s home in Western New York. Since we were traveling across the state for the wedding, Ken and I packed up the boys and, along with my mom and sister, turned the trip into a little family vacation. We spent a few days exploring the Niagara Falls area before heading to the wedding celebration. (More on that adventure soon!)

I have such a soft spot for at-home weddings. There is something so relaxed and personal about celebrating in a place that already means something to the family. There’s no rushing from one location to another—just everyone together, enjoying the day and celebrating the couple.

Guests enjoyed cocktail hour when they arrived, and when it was time for the ceremony, everyone made their way to the absolutely GORGEOUS barn.

Amy made her way toward the ceremony surrounded by her nieces, nephew and cousins, who led the way blowing bubbles and tossing rose petals. It was such a fun and sweet way to begin the ceremony.

One of my favorite moments was watching Mark as Amy walked down the tree-stump-lined aisle toward him. The smiles they gave each other said everything. You could see both of them trying to hold back the tears, and it was one of those moments that reminded me exactly why I love photographing weddings.

After the ceremony, it was time to celebrate! Guests danced, sang karaoke, went swimming and gathered around a huge bonfire as the evening went on. It was relaxed, fun and completely them.

Being there as Mark’s sister was incredibly special. Being trusted to document it all as their photographer made it even more meaningful.

Amy and Mark, I couldn’t be happier for the two of you. Your wedding was filled with family, laughter and so much love—and I am so grateful I was able to capture this chapter of your story.
