Sue + RJ | Wedding

There’s something so special about a small, intimate wedding, especially when you have a personal connection to the couple.

I first met RJ way back in the day when Ken used to play in hockey tournaments in Lake Placid. So when a mutual friend reached out to ask if I was available to photograph RJ and Sue’s wedding at the Saratoga Casino Hotel, I was so excited to be a part of their day!

Sue and RJ chose to keep their wedding small and intimate, surrounded by the people who mean the most to them. There’s something I absolutely love about weddings like this. Without all the hustle and bustle of a large celebration, there’s more time to slow down, enjoy the people around you, and really take in the moments that matter.

Of course, Mother Nature decided to make things interesting for us! It was an incredibly windy day, with rain threatening to make an appearance. Thankfully, the rain held off, and we made the most of it. We worked with the wind, embraced it, and were still able to capture some beautiful outdoor portraits.

Sue and RJ’s ceremony was heartfelt and personal. One of my favorite moments was watching their moms take part in the ceremony by helping with the unity candle. It was such a meaningful way to include two of the most important people in their lives as they officially joined their families together.

After the ceremony, everyone headed to Morton’s The Steakhouse for dinner, where Sue and RJ were able to celebrate with their closest family and friends. It was the perfect ending to an intimate wedding day—great food, good company, and plenty of time to simply enjoy being together.

Small weddings have a beauty all their own. They’re a wonderful reminder that your wedding day doesn’t have to be huge or elaborate to be incredibly meaningful. At the end of the day, it’s about marrying your person and celebrating that moment with the people you love.
