It’s finally Friday
This week comes to an end as bitter sweet. It’s officially the end of the hockey season. We have one more tournament weekend to go next week for Austin’s team, but I will miss it, and Ken will have the opportunity to see a tournament. He typically gets left behind to attend to the house madness while I take the away tournaments. I do prefer it that way, but next Friday I have my first wedding of the year (SO EXCITED) so Ken gets to enjoy a father-son weekend.
The end of season means that we will no longer spend every night at the rink and weekends traveling to games. Ken and I will no longer be like 2 ships passing in the night. One going one direction, the other going somewhere else. As it is with every hockey season end, I know I am going to miss it. I actually love the craziness of it, the games are so intense and exciting, I love watching each of the boys develop stronger skills, I love spending time with the other hockey families and getting to know them, I love watching my boys form friendship and make memories and I love being part of the hockey life family! But …. I’m ready. I am ready for engagement and wedding season, I’m ready to spend a couple days a month watching two people commit their life to each other and celebrate with their family and friends. I am ready for hot summer days in the pool and warm summer nights outside sitting around a fire with my family, and I’m definitely ready for summer vacations and for all that summer brings. And with the end of hockey, it means that summer is right around the corner!
So tonight, we celebrated the season end with a parent-player game for Cameron and Trevor’s 14U team and Ken got to play with his oldest boys! It was so much fun watching Ken skate with them. I couldn’t help but remember when Ken and I were just starting to date and I would watch him at his weekly pickup games. Now I’m watching that man play with our children and it’s an awesome feeling.
So tonight, I got to cherish one more day at the rink before we get a break for a little while, at least ….. until summer hockey starts up!
