A Special Surprise for Grandma | Extended Family

There is something extra special about photographing a family I’ve had the privilege of working with before. When one of my previous brides reached out and asked if I would photograph her entire extended family as a surprise for her grandmother, I was so excited to be part of it.

Getting the whole family together in one place isn’t always easy—especially as families grow, kids get older, and everyone’s lives get busier. But that’s also exactly why photos like these become so important.

This session wasn’t just about getting one big family photo. It was about capturing Grandma surrounded by the people she loves most. We made sure to photograph the entire family together, along with the individual families and all of those different combinations that tell the story of a family across generations.

I especially love extended family sessions because these photographs only become more meaningful with time. Kids grow up, families change, and life moves incredibly fast. Having photos that capture everyone together, exactly as they are in this season of life, is such a gift.

And knowing that this entire session was planned as a surprise for Grandma made it even sweeter.

What started as a thoughtful gift turned into something the whole family will be able to treasure for years to come—and I’m so happy I was able to capture it for them.
