A Fall Engagement Session at Mabee Farm | Rotterdam Junction NY | Michelle and Travis
I met Michelle and Travis at Mabee Farm Historic Site in Rotterdam Junction, NY for their fall engagement photos, and it was such a beautiful day for a session. Between the rustic barns, wooded paths, riverfront scenery, and gorgeous fall colors, Mabee Farm gave us so many different backdrops to work with.
These two were a little shy in front of the camera when we first started—which is completely normal! Most couples aren’t used to having a camera following them around while they’re snuggling, laughing, and trying to act natural.
But it didn’t take long at all for them to relax.
Once they settled in, their personalities and connection really started to come through. We kept things moving, walked around the property, laughed a lot, and captured a mixture of romantic portraits and those more natural, in-between moments that I love so much.
A Session Perfect for Two Runners
One of the things I loved learning about these two was that they’re both avid runners. There’s something so fun about photographing a couple who shares something they genuinely love doing together. And while I didn’t make them run their way through their engagement session, we definitely did plenty of walking while exploring Mabee Farm!
By the end of the session, you would never have guessed they had been nervous about being photographed.
Their outfits were also perfect for a fall engagement session. The cream and deep plum looked beautiful against the weathered wood of the barns and all of the warm autumn colors around the property.
From Mabee Farm to River Stone Manor
Their engagement session was only the beginning because I later had the chance to photograph their wedding at River Stone Manor in Glenville, NY.
That’s one of my favorite things about engagement sessions. By the time the wedding arrives, we’ve already spent time together, they know what it’s like to be in front of my camera, and all of those initial nerves are gone. Instead of feeling like I’m showing up as a stranger on their wedding day, it feels like we’re simply picking up where we left off.
And considering how quickly these two warmed up during their Mabee Farm engagement session, I knew their wedding photos were going to be something special.
