A Cozy Fall Family Session at Home | Jason & Laurie

There’s something extra special about photographing a family right at home. It’s familiar, comfortable, and a place where so many of their everyday memories are already being made.

This fall session with Jason, Laurie, and their two sweet kids took place right in their own backyard, and the autumn colors could not have been more beautiful. The trees were glowing with shades of gold, orange, and red, giving us the perfect backdrop without ever having to leave home.

This session was also a little more personal for me. Jason has played hockey with my husband, Ken, for years, so I was excited to have the opportunity to photograph his family.

We started with some traditional family portraits, but—as always—some of my favorite images came when everyone relaxed and just had fun together. The kids tossed leaves, laughed with each other, snuggled up with Mom and Dad, and gave me plenty of those genuine little moments that make family sessions so much fun to photograph.

And I absolutely love that we took some time to photograph Jason and Laurie together, too. When you have kids, family photos tend to become all about them, but Mom and Dad’s story deserves to be documented along the way as well.

Their backyard, the pumpkins, the gorgeous fall foliage, and most importantly, all of the laughter made this such a sweet fall family session.
