Making Christmas Memories at the Tree Farm
There’s something about Christmas tree farm sessions that never gets old.
Maybe it’s the rows of evergreens, the cozy winter layers, or the excitement kids have when they realize they get to run around a Christmas tree farm instead of standing perfectly still for pictures. Whatever it is, these sessions always end up being some of my favorites of the year.
This year’s Christmas Tree Farm Mini Sessions were filled with everything I love about photographing families—snuggles, laughter, silly moments, and plenty of personality.
Christmas Photos That Feel Like Your Family
Of course, we always make time for that classic Christmas card photo where everyone is looking at the camera and smiling. But some of my favorite images usually happen in between those moments.
Kids running between the trees. Parents cuddling their little ones. Siblings making each other laugh. Tiny hands holding onto Mom and Dad.
Those are the photographs that tell the story of what your family looked and felt like during this season of life.
And when you come back year after year, they become even more special.
The little one you were carrying is suddenly walking.
The toddler who refused to sit still is now posing like a pro.
The kids are taller. Their personalities are bigger. And somehow another Christmas has arrived way too quickly.
A Beautiful Backdrop for Christmas Photos
A Christmas tree farm really doesn’t need much decorating. The evergreens create such a beautiful, timeless backdrop on their own, so I like to keep the setup cozy and simple and let your family be the focus.
It also gives us plenty of variety during a short session. We can capture the traditional family portrait, photos of the kids together, individual portraits, Mom and Dad, and lots of those candid moments in between.
What to Wear for Christmas Tree Farm Photos
You don’t have to dress everyone in matching outfits to make your Christmas photos feel coordinated. In fact, I usually prefer when families mix complementary colors, textures, and patterns.
Cream, camel, burgundy, forest green, rust, navy, plaid, denim, and warm neutrals all photograph beautifully against the evergreen trees. Sweaters, scarves, boots, textured knits, and cozy layers can add that perfect Christmas feel without making the photos look overly themed.
Most importantly, wear something that feels like you.
Making Christmas Memories
Christmas Mini Sessions may only take a short amount of time, but the photographs become part of your family history.
They end up on Christmas cards, framed around the house, tucked into albums, given to grandparents, and pulled out years later when you can’t believe how little the kids once were.
That’s why I love doing these sessions every year.
It’s not just about getting a pretty Christmas picture.
It’s about freezing one Christmas in time.
And I’m already looking forward to the next one.
