Emily and Tim’s wedding at The Appel Inn in Altamont, NY had all three!

I first met these two during their engagement session at Ooms Conservation Area earlier that year, and I remember immediately noticing the way they looked at each other.

You know that look where someone doesn’t even have to say anything because you can see exactly how they feel?

That’s Emily and Tim.

The love between these two is written all over their faces, and getting to photograph that connection again on their wedding day made me even more excited to be there.

A Fall Wedding at The Appel Inn

Emily and Tim chose The Appel Inn in Altamont, NY for their beautiful fall wedding, and I was so excited to photograph their day here.

Fun fact about The Appel Inn: country music fans might recognize the venue as the place where Hillary Scott of Lady A celebrated her wedding! As a huge country music fan myself, of course I thought that was pretty cool.

Celebrity connection aside, it’s easy to see why couples fall in love with this venue. The property has such a beautiful country feel, and in the fall, the surrounding trees and warm autumn colors create an incredible backdrop for wedding photographs.

Emily and Tim couldn’t have asked for a better day. We had warm temperatures, gorgeous fall color, and some seriously beautiful light.

Getting Ready for the Wedding

Emily spent the morning surrounded by an amazing group of women who kept the atmosphere exactly how a wedding morning should feel.

There was plenty of laughter, excitement, and just enough calm to keep those wedding-day nerves under control.

And Emily looked absolutely gorgeous.

One of my favorite parts of photographing the beginning of a wedding day is watching everything slowly become real. The dress goes on, the finishing touches are added, and suddenly the person I’ve been photographing throughout the morning looks in the mirror and sees herself as a bride.

Then it was time for Emily to see Tim.

Emily + Tim’s First Look

Emily and Tim chose to have a first look before their ceremony, which you already know I LOVE.

A first look gives a couple a few minutes together before the ceremony and lets some of those nerves disappear before walking down the aisle.

And almost every time, I can actually see the difference.

There is so much anticipation leading up to that moment. Then they see each other, hug, laugh, talk for a few minutes—and suddenly everything feels a little calmer.

For Emily and Tim, it also gave us plenty of time to take advantage of the beautiful grounds at The Appel Inn for their wedding portraits.

The sun was high and bright, but we found gorgeous light throughout the property for their first look, portraits, and ceremony.

The Perfect Fall Wedding Day in Altamont

Fall weddings in Upstate New York can be unpredictable.

You might get sunshine and 70 degrees, freezing temperatures, rain—or sometimes all three in the same day!

Emily and Tim lucked out.

Their wedding fell on one of those beautiful warm autumn days right before the colder winds arrived. The fall colors were showing off, the light was gorgeous, and everything came together perfectly for their outdoor photographs.

But even with such a beautiful setting, Emily and Tim were always the focus.

The way Emily looks at Tim and the way he looks right back at her is something I noticed during their engagement session, and it was even more apparent on their wedding day.

Those are the moments I’m always watching for.

Of course I want the beautiful posed portraits, but I also want the photograph immediately after the pose—the little smile, laugh, glance, or touch that happens naturally between two people.

Celebrating at The Appel Inn

After the ceremony, it was time to celebrate!

Emily and Tim’s guests kicked off the reception fun with a trivia game before everyone headed to the dance floor.

I love receptions where guests are completely involved in the celebration, and this group definitely knew how to have a good time.

After a beautiful and emotional day, watching Emily and Tim relax, laugh, dance, and celebrate with all of their favorite people was the perfect ending.

From their beautiful first look to the gorgeous fall portraits, warm autumn weather, and a reception filled with laughter and dancing, Emily and Tim’s Appel Inn wedding was such a joy to photograph.

More than anything, I loved getting to photograph these two again after their engagement session and seeing their story come full circle on their wedding day.
